👥 Cast & Characters

📖 Plot / Premise

Marvin Gable (Ke Huy Quan) now lives a quiet life as a realtor in the Milwaukee suburbs, trying to leave his violent past behind.

But his former partner-in-crime, Rose (Ariana DeBose), sends him a “crimson envelope,” which draws him back into danger.

Meanwhile, Marvin’s brother Knuckles (a crime lord) is closing in. Marvin must confront old enemies, betrayed alliances, and unresolved history.

The film blends romantic tension, action set-pieces, and attempts at comedy in a fast-paced thriller format.

📣 Reception & Critical Response

The reception has been mixed to negative overall:

  • According to Rotten Tomatoes, the story involves ruthless hitmen, double crosses, and “deadly warzones” appearing in even mundane settings like open houses.

  • Some critics praised the performances (especially Ke Huy Quan) and moments of action.

  • But many critics felt the narrative was weak, the romantic subplot underdeveloped, and that the film lacked a consistent tone.

  • The Associated Press review criticized the film for “weak comedic pacing, poorly developed characters,” while acknowledging that Quan’s performance was a highlight.

  • The Guardian similarly noted that while the fight choreography is solid, the narrative is confusing and the romance feels tacked on.

  • On audience forums, some viewers complained the plot was “paper thin” but acknowledged Quan’s effort in action scenes.
